Adult Career Pathway Design Camp

Meet with Experts

The Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL), in partnership with the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) and the National Association of State Directors of Adult Education (NASDAE), met with 10 teams from around the country in Nashville, Tennessee on August 7-9, 2018 to formally kick off the process of designing state of the art, replicable career pathways programs for adults 26 and over. Over a three-year period, ten teams will partake in a Design Camp culminating in a Career Pathways Festival to pitch their proposed solutions with a chance to win $100,000!

One of the activities at the Design Camp — Entrants engaged with national subject matter experts about next generation career pathway design features and approaches that:

  • stack and aggregate learning experiences at various levels of education and industry credentials;
  • make use of prior learning assessments, competency-based assessments, and micro-credentials;
  • provide academic and wrap-around supports; and
  • incorporate universal design principles to ensure adult learners with visible and invisible disabilities can benefit from programs.

Other experiences and support include ongoing coaching, the Career Pathway Festival, and the virtual community of practice. Learn more at The Roadmap on how to engage, educate and excel your way to the $100K prize money.

The top three teams will receive $100K as a reward for having the most creative programmatic solutions. While this funding could be used by teams to support implementation, it is not a requirement.
